    Dear Botanical Garden community.

I'm wondering if there is anybody out there who can help me in naming some plants that I have photographed. I'm building my own image library and I need to name the plants for keywording purposes.

If you know your plants trees and flowers and think you can help then please take a look. There are about 80 pictures (there might be the odd duplicate).

If you can help then I would be HUGELY grateful - even if you know the odd one or two then fine - just put the name in the comments box.

Thanking you in advance for your help.

    Tim.

    Welcome timbird.
I think you have misunderstood how these plant id forums work. Yes, we love to help....BUT 80 on a link is toooo many. Far better to post say 3 pics at a time on a thread. We can all see them then. Who will want to scroll down 79 pics that everyone else has answered to name number 80!
It also gives room for discussion/disagreements.
It also helps us all to learn and see super pics even if we cannot id each one.

    Hi Silver Surfer,
Thanks for your reply raising a very valid point. I know it's quite a lot but I'm just hoping enough people can contribute, no arm twisting on my part :). I did stress in the post that even one or two names by members here and there would help me. Regards.

timbird, you've actually done this pretty well. One does not have to count back and forth to see which plant no. your trying to ID.
Just a quick guess on my part is #1 a form of Bougainvillea - lord knows which. And #2 is one of the croton's or CODIAEUM variegatum.

Lila P, Silver S, Mr UK, Ron and some of you other really knowledgeable guys -- Here is your finals for the year. LOL :))))) barb

This way won't work, Barbara - for me the pictures you named appear as #5 and #7.

ooops! I didn't do it the proper way. After going through all of them the first and second pics (the way they came up for me) were the only ones I even had a clue on. My bad...barb

NOW I see what you mean! The first time it came up there were small pics all across the bottom and I just scrolled across. It was easy to use. Now when I go back there are 2 pics per line all the way DOWN the page and they are much larger. That's weird. barb

Well, we're not going to be able to name them all and then remember what number was which plant after several days anyway. I named a few throughout. Bougs number at least three photos if I recall correctly. There were some I could have gotten the right family, but not sure of the species, and some will be impossible to ID for certain.

Any of us who look at the thumbnails can see that Tim's traveled quite a bit. Fall foliage tour and tropics at the very least.

Lovely photos, by the way. Enjoyable to page through for any reason.

...the hot countries are Bali, Hong Kong and Monaco. I'm trying to think if there are any other ways to post these to make it easier to name them.

well, that's weird. it looks completely different now than a few hours ago.

before, there was a pic with an area to the right side where you could comment in the white box and then the rest of the pics were shown across the bottom (and you could scroll through them).

now, the first pic is large and all the rest are shown to the right of it...and they're in a different order now.

the half dozen comments i added don't seem to be there now...and if you're not a member of flicker, then you have to join it to comment. i received no error or request to sign in earlier.

don't know what's different - iirc, it wasn't on flicker earlier...

anyhoo, you've got some fabulous pics there!!!

Yes! Post them direct to this UBC site, 3-5 at a time.Start a new thread for the next batch. People here will be delighted to do their very best to help.

Your pics will then be a permanent record here. Anybody reseaching Parrotia persica in years to come will find your lovely pic!

...sorry Joclyn the one I had earlier wasn't saving the comments. OK, it seems that posting direct onto the forum will get the help I need. Primarily I'm doing this for my library but it really is nice to share these with enthusiasts. I'll be posting over the next few days.

Thanks Joclyn I thought I was getting weirder than normal. Everytime I brought it up it was different and couldn't get the names in either.

Sorry Timbird - guess you're going to have to post as Joclyn says - 3 or 4 at a time. If you can number them somehow it makes it easier for us. I've seen others do it but have no idea how.

Be patient tho, there are some absolutly fantastic ID people on this forum aaand from all over the world so you will certainly get answers. ;))) barb
