Hello there: Please help identify this shrub for me. I am located Campbellford, Ontario, Can. Zone 5. This shrub has thorns and has very distinctive berries. The berries are reddish purple with bumpy texture. The aroma from the berries is very much like citronella. I am enclosing a picture which is not the greatest. I appreciate any feedback. This forum is the greatest!!!

    Regards,
    Deborah

It's Prickly Ash (Zanthoxylum americanum), a North American native. I like it's dense glossy foliage (when in full sun)....it reminds me of a dwarf Carob tree.
