Hi there, I re-potted a pieris last fall and it doesn't look happy. The leaves have red spots all over. I'm wondering if you might venture a guess at what is at play. Some other plants I planted around the same time, but in the ground, are also showing this strange coloration. I've attached images of the pieris and a rhododendron. Thanks!
Hey, did you ever figure out what was causing the leaf spots on your Pieris? Mine has starting showing nearly identical symptoms a month ago. I'm located in Vancouver.
I see similar spots on my Pieris, Rhododendrons and Arbutus; always worst at this time of year. The new leaves open looking fine but over winter start showing these spots. I think they're fungal but have not investigated to find out more - thinking that there's not much a could/would do about it anyway. Hopefully, someone else will have more to add.
Spotting of broadleaf evergreens can be associated with wet conditions. Hence the winter prevalence in the local climate. Notice also every plant shown on this thread has a very poor (light green) base color, something that can be the result of excessive soil leaching. Which is something else that happens when there is a lot of water passing through the rooting environment.
