Please help ID

    Could you please help me ID this plant- it is growing like a weed in our yard- the flower looks a little like an orchid but it is growing where it doesn't get any water just fine. The center of the flower has a stinky, sticky substance, and as you can see from the photo, it is producing a fruit that looks almost like squash.

    oh i don't know, with a few exceptions of grossly invasive species in our particular climate, i think that weeds are largely a matter of opinion : )

    Well, if you really want the vicious sharp hooked spines on the seed pods, it's up to you - but most people detest them!

    While I agree that the term "weed" is a matter of opinion, in most cases, there is a reason that label is relevant in some cases. =P

    Thanks for the quick response/ID. This has beautiful flowers, and several unique features to the plant, including the "fruit".
