Can anyone help id this shrub/tree for me. It is approximately 4 to 5 years old, looks similar to a Capalta leaf but the shrub does not have any pods or flowers so far.

Does your shrub have milky sap? (If so, avoid skin contact.)

    Leaves definitely that of Catalpa.
I have read that they do not flower until 7-10 years of age. So maybe yours is just too young.

    Agree with Catalpa.

They can take a lot longer than 7-10 years to flower where cool summers (as in the UK, and the PNW) are not to their liking - there's one in my local park which as far as I'm aware has never flowered, and it's about 100 years old.

The dead twigs on yours (top left of pic) are very typical of cool summer weather not allowing the shoots to mature enough to withstand winter cold.

Thank you very much for this info. Our summer weather usually gets to around 30 degree in the Okanagan, but last winter was very hard on alot of plants with the freezing and thawing and not much snow. My friends Catalpa tree has been blooming like crazy but it is probably 50 years old.
