First, my apologies. I somehow got this post into the Pacific NW board first. This is a flower I found growing in my lower yard, along a tree line, a few years ago. It has since multiplied, and I transplated two stalks to one of my beds. They grow to about 5' and bloomed the first week of July. The stalk is approx. 1/2" thick, and the leaves are evenly spaced in single layers the entire length of the stalk (whorled, I believe is the term). I am in Cleveland, Ohio. It is quite lovely, but I am curious what it is. Thanks in advance, Rick
Looks like a variety of Lily to me... although I've not seen one exactly like that, similar ones are often refered to as an Asian Lily -- but that's still a bit broad. Wikipedia lists a good 100 odd varieties: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lilium You could try browsing through them.
Thank you very much. The USDA webpage has a picture of Lilium canadense L which is an exact match. I am very happy to know this a native flower, and not some mutant freak that will take over the neighborhood. Rick
