My daughter (4.5 years old) and I planted some seeds found in food in the kitchen. We need help to identify the seedlings so we can label them. The common and scientific name would be appreciated. Our second batch have been labeled with tape that does not come off!

We planted the following on February 9:
    • Red Delicious Apple
    • Cumin
    • Red Kidney Bean
    • Lentil Bean
    • Sesame
    • Red Pepper
    • Banana Pepper
    Thanks.

The second pic looks like your Red Delicious Apple.... Malus domestica "Red Delicious"

Numbers one and three look to be your peppers: the Red (bell?) pepper is Capsicum anuum and so is the banana pepper (assuming this was a long yellow Italian hot pepper.) I should mention that the easiest way to tell them apart when they're so young is to gently bruise the cotleydon and smell it. The banana pepper will smell spicier than the bell.

When/if the cumin (Cuminum cyminum)) sprouts, it will look like dillweed.

When/if the sesame (Sesamum indicum) sprouts, it will have really dark green, lance-shaped leaves in opposing pairs after the initial cotleydons sprout.

The kidney bean, Phaseolus vulgaris, will have heart-shaped leaves with smooth edges, and might be viney or bushy - the plant is quite variable.

The lentil, Lens culinaris, might not sprout for you, since commercial lentils tend to be split and therefore aren't viable for planting. If it does sprout, it will look like milkvetch - pinnate leaves on a whippy stalk.
