Well, we are lucky nevertheless to be corresponding with you. Back here tonight [Nov 30] there was a passionate exchange on Larry King Live with Jesse Ventura, Ariana Huffington who runs the online Huffington Post, and a Ben Stein who is a journalist/actor/writer/speaker, and it was interesting to hear them all going at it. Ventura thinks your government should bring you guys home, or else all Senators and Congressmen should send a family member over there.. or establish a war tax to take care of you guys properly, among other opinions. All had valid opinions on various sides of the issue. Canadians have around 2000 to 2500 troops in Afghanistan, with divided opinion on that at home here. Remind me to stay off politics, war, and such-like things. I'll stick to plants. It's interesting what's living in the lowlands you mentioned... these bits of information give us a picture of that place.

    Good luck!

Since you're in an area where it could potentially occur, have a look out for Slender-billed Curlews:

You're highly unlikely to find one, but you never know . . . and if you do, there's a US $1000 reward posted for anyone who can get a verifiable photo of one: http://www.birdwatch.co.uk/website/content/view/2737/32/
