I just moved back into an apartment and am trying to decide what plants to salvage from my house. The only outdoor space is a balcony that faces due east. The basic question is, how much sun do conifers need to survive? I have some dwarf cryptomerias, a sciadopitys and a Japanese black pine that were in pots on the patio; can they survive for a few years in that environment? I also have an acer palmatum (species) and a judd viburnum - am I correct in assuming that they are OK with limited sun?

    Thanks,

    Jim

First off, what other choices do the plants have? That is to say, is there anything to lose by trying? I'm guessing that everything except the pine would do OK.

Good point. I guess if there was a consensus that it was hopeless, I would give them away rather than watch them die slowly.
