Hello everyone ! This is my first thread on this forum so Im not sure if I chose the right category but here's what my question is :

I started gardening and being interested in botany about a year ago. Now I bought a bunch of seeds from ebay and I would like to know when is the best time to plant them. I am from Montreal Canada. The list of my seeds are :

    1: Ginkgo Biloba
    2: Baobab
    3: Giant Sequoia
    4: European Olive tree
    5: Black Mulberry
    6: Japanese quince
    7: Ilex Crenata ( Japanese Holly )

These will eventually be used for bonsai :P But I have no clue when exactly is the best time to plant their seed so I get best results :P If you could give some tips it would be amazing !

    Thanks all

    Alex

I would try to germinate things to maximize exposure to light in their first season. So this would mean trying to have things germinate in early spring. For the type of plants you list, it is not so simple like planting annual flowers or veggies. Each plant that you list will have different germination times and may need pre-treatment, such as stratification (meaning the seeds have to go through a period of cold or warm treatment that may be several months) or soaking, scarifying the seed, etc. Also the initial care of seedlings and young plants may be different than the growing conditions they require later, so it's good to read about that as well. For example some plants start their lives in the shade of other plants until they mature, so their light requirement changes as they grow.

It would be advisable to look up each plant online (or in books) to find their germination requirements. Type germinating and the plant name into your search engine to find specific info on each one. A quick look at such a page for baobob for example, recommended pouring boiling water over the seed to soften it--in the natural setting this happens in an elephant's tummy.
