I have a few 'pups' or offsets from some kind of globular cactus (possibly echinopsis), and want to know some details about potting them up. I don't know whether to let them dry for a few days and form a callus, or pot them up right away. Neither of the pups have a root system. Well, the larger one has a bit of a tap root, but no smaller roots. Cacti sources contradict themselves. Some say dry them out, and others say pot them up promptly. There isn't a cut surface that has to dry out on either pup. Anyone know for certain?

If you had to cut them away from the parent (doesn't sound like you had to) then let it heal for a few days. If not, then pot them up right away.

For echinopsis just press them into whatever mixture you're using and treat them like adults (if they have no roots though I would think that you'd have to wait a few days before giving them a drink, dunno though).

    Good luck!

Well, come to think of it there may be a bit of a 'wound', as I had to twist them off the parent...I think I'll take your advice and wait a few days. Thanks for the reply!
