Anyone can tell me Coquitlam is on which zone? What outdoor flowers and vegetables can be planted? Thanks!
Hi yinghua, if you adhere to Zone 8 you may be confused by the US zones which do not match our climate here in Coquitlam. We are more a zone 5, and our warm summers verses Vancouver's, due to inland warming and ultimately inland cooling during the winter months. If you are in Westwood Plateau then it would be a Zone 4 as winter snow and frosts linger up to May sometimes...in West Coquitlam Zone 5 is more applicable. I hope this helps you better plan your plantings...If unsure, ask the nursery horticulturist about specific temperature requirements....and NOT at a big box store, such as Home Dep.
With such low numbers for Vancouver it sounds like K. Baron is talking about the Sunset Climate Zones rather than the more widely known and used USDA Hardiness Zones. There is also a Canadian zone system, which I have gotten the impression comes out with similar numbers to the USDA system but also somewhat different. Maybe I'm not remembering it right and that is what K. Baron is referring to. It appears that to get related answers you needed to specify which system you were asking about. And that responders needed to name which system they were talking about as well.
>What outdoor flowers and vegetables can be planted?< You might want to pick up a copy of the popular Sunset WESTERN GARDEN BOOK to help get you started.
