    Ah. I did come across this while I was searching, but I wasn't sure because of the absence of the curled blossom. Is that where the red fruits are now?

    Hmmm!!!. Earlier in the year these plants produce a thing that looks like a sort of pointed and curled cowl. ( This is called the spathe) Inside this are the working parts of the plant... the male and female bits. Insects crawl in and pollinate the plant. Once fertilised the spathe withers away, revealing a stalk with the seeds / red berries... as your pic shows.
