British Columbia: plant suitable for shale bank- gulf island

    What erosion-reducing planting will survive best, on an old-growth treed shale hill? The hill faces west, with light shade.

    What's growing there already? Consider increasing what's already there. Oregon grape seems prominent on such sites, and provides good erosion control.

    Thank you. a few tall cedars and maples grow there on the 45 degree loft bank. 10 years since ground disturbed for construction. a few ferns planted have been planted successfully. oregon grape and salal are beautiful and grow 30 feet away. these i love. they do not take kindly to transplanting.

    do these take to shale? yes--over time.
