I was out walking today and discovered blankets of this little plant everywhere. It is shiny, and looks like a fern of some sort(disregard the vine in the background). I have absolutely no idea what it is - I have been looking through databases all day.

Any idea as to what it is?

I think it's a Lycopodium... I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will either correct or add to that...

Yep, agree with Tipularia's ident. Quite a rare plant, endangered in many areas due to habitat destruction (like all clubmosses, it is extremely sensitive to disturbance of any form). Almost impossible to grow as a cultivated plant. You are very lucky to find it doing so well.

It is actually quite common around here in certain woodland areas. But you cannot move it with any hope of success for any length of time.
