This plant is located in my parents yard. They bought it a couple of years ago and I would like to be able to tell them what kind of plant it is. Thanks

Definitely Nandina domestica. Common name heavenly bamboo.. although it is not a bamboo at all! This is a super shrub, especially in the autumn when the leaves colour beautifully. Masses of info on the internet. Try this site for starters.

The University of North Carolina campus used to have lots of nandinas. I think they fell victim to all-holly planting schemes before their invasiveness became evident.

Since it's no longer recommendable as a landscape plant, maybe some species of Berberis might be similarly interesting. In fact, between Southern natives and suitable species from East Asia, there's no excuse to have an uninteresting yard.
