    Hi,

Can anybody give me an exact latin name for this beautiful plant I found this afternoon please? It reminds me of an orchid or an antirrhinum/snapdragon. The 'mouth' opend in the same way.

Many thanks in advance. Weedwild flower from jans garden may '10 016.jpg

Thank you very much silver surfer....once again you come to the rescue. So basically , is it a weed? If it is, it is very beautiful. I see it is related to snapdragon, is trycertis, the toad lily related?
My niece has a fishpond that has a surround of broken grey flags/slabs, I am wondering if it would be wise to plant it in between the wall/slabs? I would appreciate an opinion, or should I just treat it as a weed?

It's a pretty thing, and grows on walls here. It's not particular thuggish, and I would think it ideal for between paving stones. Just because it's a native wildflower, and not one developed by nurserymen or imported "for garden use", is no reason to despise it. If you like it, and I do, grow it.

I like Cymbalaria and grow it. Yes, it does spread, but is easy enough to pull out.

Tricyrtis is not related, it is in the Lily family. Liliaceae.

    Nic,

I did google this plant, and one of the things that I found, which I thought was quite funny, an American site was selling this plant for sale at £48 for 24 plants !!!! I think I will try and transplant some and just hope !! Sometimes things can be transplanted and be happy and take and others just fail, but think I will give it a go, it is so beautiful, thanks for your opinion.
