My fiancee found this plant, and is on the verge of digging it up and burning it...need a sure identification before I let her at it. I've looked at the obvious possibilities (to me anyways), and haven't found anything that matches close enough for me to make a decision. Thanks!
There are a couple of other Hibiscus that it could be, too. H. cannabinus, for one. I do not think it is a Cannabis spp, if that is what your wife is wondering. I had a Jatropha spp that I can't recall now that had a questionable leaf look, too. Nothing more than a curious plant that just happened to have a palmate leaf of a similar size. Yours is not that Jatropha either. Kinda doubt it's the Ambrosia because the habit is too lush and dense, but Hibiscus seems likely.
H. cannabinus wouldn't be a perennial in Arkansas' climate. Allow it to flower to determine it's identity as I'm certain it isn't Cannabis sativa.
