Good Day! Just out on a hike through our local reservation/park (Central New Jersey) and came upon a flowering tree/bush we have never seen before. Leaf is elliptical, pinnate, acute tip and base, margin entire, approximately 10.5 inches long. What struck us, however, was this extraordinary layered flower "bud" -- at least 5 inches long and three inches diameter itself, only one bud per branch -- in the most fantastic bright pink -- the size of the "bud" would lead us to envision a flower at least 12-15 inches in diameter (huge!). We can't wait to see it bloom -- will try to get back there tomorrow for a pic. Any thoughts? Thanks!
