Can anyone tell me what kind of plant this is? I saved it from being thrown out at my store. I've narrowed it down to either diefenbaccia, or a kind of Bird of Paradise.... I can't wait till it blooms to find out. I have to know how to treat it NOW.
itsa giant spathyphyllum, I have had many of these in my store before, they will bloom, but like to be kept rootbound and to be evenly moist. Low light is a key, no full sun, just cut off any damaged leaves, and put it outside in a shady spot for the summer.
I thought it looked like a spathiphyllum also, but it is hard to be sure from this picture. The top of the potting soil looks dust dry. The 'burnt' parts of the leaves and drooping edges could also indicate moisture-related issues. These particular plants like lots of water, if you get a good response you will soon get white or green flowerheads consisting of a spikelike spadix (where the tiny flowers are) accompanied by a ribbon- or boat-like spathe. A family resemblance to anthuriums, philodendrons or skunk cabbage may be apparent.
