Plant Identification

    It is a purple passionflower (Passiflora incarnata). Being a native of the U.S., it ranges from Pennyslvania, Illinois, and Oklahoma south to Florida and west as far as Texas. The fruit, minus the skin and seeds, is edible and has a sedative property. The leaves and flowers, too, have a sedative property and can be used for tea.
