Not sure what this is-large leaves, red veined, slightly downy on back of leaf. Stem red-striped. Alternate leaves, 6 ft. tall plant.
I'm thinking burdock, Arctium sp. For me it is much easier to ID something when I am presented with a photo of the entire plant.
Burdock was my initial thought, too. One of our clients brought the specimen into our Master Gardener Plant and Insect Clinic for ID. I can identify it in the wild, but never looked closely at it in the field--the red striped stem is very distinctive, and I never noticed that before. There are tiny flower buds, but they don't look like much right now.
Looked up Chenopodiaceae--the leaves don't look like that. Pretty sure it's common burdock http://whitman.wsu.edu/common-burdock/
