We have a tree where I work that I am trying to ID. It has bark & leaves like a cherry tree and in the fall it bears fruit that has the size & shape of cherries. The flesh is peach colored and has a mild peach flavor and a pit like a cherry. The only thing that is different is that it has a dull leathery light red skin with what almost looks like pox marks. Can anyone help me figure out what this is??
One easy difference between Arbutus fruit and cherries is that an Arbutus fruit contains numerous small seeds, a cherry contains a single large, hard-shelled stone. Can you check what yours has?
Maybe Prunus americana. http://images.google.com/images?q=p...ent=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&hl=en&tab=wi
