Plant ID

    I went down to the pond today and these came back in my socks. Any idea what plant they're from?

    Scratch that a friend as informed me that it is of the Xanthium genus. Anyone else think so?

    Correct, possibly Xanthium strumarium

    Xanthium does seem likely - habitat is correct, certainly.
