I am trying to identify a plant that I don't have a readily available picture of. It has bright yellow pompon flowers on individual stalks that grow to be around 5-6 feet tall. The stalks are slightly woody and bright green. The stalks tend to be in clumps. The leaves are rippled. It was at a house I bought in 1992, but I have no idea if it is an 'antique.' I was told it was called 'japanese asteria' but I can not find any info under that name. Any guesses would be welcome - I don't mind looking things up. Thanks - kvg

How tall is the plant with out the flower stalk? Are the leaves on branches or all growing out from the centre? How do the leaves feel?

Maybe Kerria japonica pleniflora, Japanese rose.

I have looked at photos of the Kerria, and it does not look like the same plant, but I'll check again. The flowers on my plant were found all up and down the stem, as were the leaves - almost like a hollyhock-type of arrangement. The leaves were textured, not rough or painful to touch, but would stick to some material (like a t-shirt) if I brushed by one that was ready to fall off. Thanks to everyone for their help!
