You can also use their sexier common name - Naked Ladies. This name refers to their ability to flower before they put on their leaves.

Other pink, fall-blooming bulbs are called naked ladies as well.

Ron points out the problem with common names, that is,many plants can have the same name. Ameryllis belladona, is commly called Nakid Lady as well ... which is a close relitive to Lycoris squamigera commonly know as Resurrection Lily ... Magic Lily ...

Yea, yea, yea - I'm sure we could all think of a few more little cuties that fall into this category. Your point is well taken & I truly have had the botanical name only routine drilled into me over & over. I simply meant to imply that for some folks new to the gardening adventure or for a few chicken-hearted clients, sometimes a spicy name or reference is enough to get them excited about new (to them) botanical specimens. If nothing else, it might send them into a buying frenzy and that certainly helps make the retail plant world keep spinning. I hope no offense was taken . . .certainly none was meant.

Common names can be fun. I like "Mouse on a Stick" for our native Aneomone, for it's seed heads, it makes me smile. I'm sure everyone can think of some good ones.
