I have just moved to a new home and have a plant that I need help identifying. It is just over 6 feet tall with leaves that measure 1.5 x 3 inches. I would like to move it but would like to find out what it is and how big it will grow before it gets a new home. It was planted within the last year.

This looks like a Magnolia, one of the deciduous species or hybrid cultivars, e.g. cultivars of M. x soulangeana.

Planting site is much too small.

All of the planting was installed a year ago when the house was built. We have just moved in and were thinking the same - some moving around is needed. There is a Laburnum tree very close to this Magnolia and in a few years it will be much too crowded. Thanks for you input appreciate the feedback!

You'll have to get that out of there as well! I could show you examples of both with trunks thicker than that bed.
