Left the apartment in White Rock at 6 this morning for a long walk to the beach and the Semiahmoo First Nations reserve. Windless and mild ... saw the yellow bellied marmot who is a long way from home (in the interior - much speculation as to how he arrived last year). Of course although I missed a photo of the marmot (too quick) I did come across so many wonderful blooming plants which our poster friends can surely identify! So much to know ... so little time.
1 - Chaenomeles japonica 2 - Prunus laurocerasus 3 - Rosmarinus 4 - Hedera helix 5 - Fumaria 7 - Berberis 9 - Euphorbia characias 10 - Cineraria / Pericallis ?
It's Chaenomeles speciosa rather than C. japonica, which is shorter-growing and often orange-flowered. The conifer is a spruce, the barberry Berberis microphylla. The pink bells belong to Vaccinium ovatum.
I could see the marmot hitching a ride in a vehicle. They certainly like to crawl under vehicles (and chew stuff, like brake lines).
