Left the apartment in White Rock at 6 this morning for a long walk to the beach and the Semiahmoo First Nations reserve. Windless and mild ... saw the yellow bellied marmot who is a long way from home (in the interior - much speculation as to how he arrived last year).

Of course although I missed a photo of the marmot (too quick) I did come across so many wonderful blooming plants which our poster friends can surely identify!

So much to know ... so little time.

It's Chaenomeles speciosa rather than C. japonica, which is shorter-growing and often orange-flowered. The conifer is a spruce, the barberry Berberis microphylla. The pink bells belong to Vaccinium ovatum.

I could see the marmot hitching a ride in a vehicle. They certainly like to crawl under vehicles (and chew stuff, like brake lines).
