    Hello,

I need some help identifying this house plant I have. It was given to me some time ago. It flowered some pretty little pink flowers at first, but not much after that. It looks to me like I need to do some trimming, but I'm not sure the proper way to cut it back. I am hoping that I can get it to flower again some time.

    Any input is appreciated.

    Thank you,
    P

It looks like a kalanchoe pumila.

    It's a Kalanchoe all right.

I see some nodes with root hairs on them. If you want to make the plant more compact you can cut just below those and plant them in a new pot; Kalanchoe are rediculously easy to propagate in this manner. You won't hurt it by trimming it unless you raze it to the dirt, and all of your trimmings can be planted to make new plants. This should also stimulate blooms.

Check your pot, too. It may be rootbound, and it probably wants a change of soils.

    Oh thank you!!!

What do you mean by "raze it to the dirt" ?

I am going to get some new pots for planting, and get busy as soon as possible, as soon as I find out what that means...

If you cut off everything that's showing above the dirtline, the plant probably won't survive. So long as you don't do that, it will most probably live.

Its a very old flowering Kalanchoe hybrid.

The many branches should be removed and repotted as cuttings and the old plant thrown away.

Look up Kalanchoe for info on how to get it to bloom again.

Its definitely not K. pumila. That species has whitish glaucous leaves.

Nope, your right, it's not pumila, no bloom on the leaves.
