Happy Spring everyone! New member here. Been enjoying time at home, puttering in the yard and talking to the plants.

There is one plant that's been around for years, and pops up in my yard here and there, but don't have any idea what it is called. The berries (not for human consumption, I believe) when mature are round and black. Can anyone help me ID it please?

Looks like Daphne laureola. I believe it's considered to be invasive.

You might want to look at Daphne odora. I think they have nicer flowers and smell better. They are usually available at garden centres for spring planting. The berries of Daphne are very toxic.

Daphne laureola is not just invasive it is very invasive - becoming rampant in many neighbourhoods because it is fairly attractive, evergreen and pest-free.

Please do not give it a foot in the door or you will soon find it coming up everywhere, out-competing other, more worthy plants.
