I require help in identifying this plant. It appears to be in the nettle family like a large leafed creeping charlie but a larger plant. The plant has purple stems with hairs and it grows well. It may not be intended for the house. Thank you, Stanley Willis
It looks like a Plectranthus, or swedish ivy. http://www.smgrowers.com/imagedb/Plectranthus_ciliatus_Drege1.JPG
Actually, I think it is pilea, common name creeping charlie, not plectranthus. Though it appears the two often are confused in the literature. I have the single-veined plant (swedish ivy), unlike the 3-veined version in the photos above, and would like to identify the correct name and species too. Here's a site I found helpful: http://plantsarethestrangestpeople.blogspot.com/2007/12/identical-cousins-part-ii-pilea.html
It's very confusing. According to several sites (those with photos), the plant photo first submitted is that of a not Swedish Ivy. See the photo in the link from Wikipedia: (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swedish_ivy) says "Plectranthus verticillatus (Swedish ivy) is a plant in the family Lamiaceae (Labiatae), native to South-east Africa, that is commonly grown as an houseplant.". This is the plant I have in a hanging pot, very different from Stanley's photo. See my own photo below.
