Can anyone offer a second opinion on this plant? I believe it to be Mugwort.

I found this plant growing in an open field, 50 yards from a stream in North London, England. They're growing in small, close knit groups, among a nettle patch.

As it is Spring and the plants are only about 2ft tall at present, the stems are still whiteish/silver, with hairs, grooves and purple streaks running up along the stem from the bottom.

Top of the leaves are green, bottoms are silver with grey hairs. Leaves are very soft. The actual leaves don't have as much of a smell as the roots. The roots have a very strong skunky smell.

Roots are a fleshy, light colour (see photos attached).

Is this Mugwort? Many thanks ...

Sure looks like Artemisia, not certain which one. Does it have that distinctive sage-like Mugwort aroma?

Thank you for your reply! Yes, it does have quite a strong 'sage like' smell from the roots, although the leave smell quite mild. The plants are still quite young, very soft and just knee height.

    Artemisia Vulgaris? Maybe ...
