Hello all, this weekend on a kayaking trip down the lehigh river in Pennsylvania near my home my sister and I observed many of the lovely wildflowers as in the pic I have posted. They grew on allmost every river island in the wet sandy soil. Im not sure but from looking around I was thinking they might be some form of Physostegia also known as obedient plant and false dragonhead but have looked at some pictures and Im not convinced Im correct. The lower stems which cannot be seen in the pic were actually quite woody and perhaps 1/4 inch in diameter. I wish I had gotten a better picture but Im hoping one of you may be familiar with it and recognize it by the only picture I have. I told my sis I would try to identify it for her if I could and would greatly appreciate any help identifying it. Thanks a bunch.

Thank you Lila, by all accounts of what I see, you are so correct. Commonly known as Loosestrife, thank you so much dear.
