HI-- I am hoping someone knows what kind of yucca (is it a yucca??? i don't know!!) this is in my front yard. I have enclosed 2 photos with the one showing its spindle (inflorescence maybe) extending up into the air easily 10-12 feet. We bought this house with this spectacular cactus yard (put in about 15 years ago) but without any care instructions or plant identifications. My neighbor is thinking that when this spindle flowers that the whole plant will die out (!!!) Can anyone help me here?
    Thanks so much

Well, I'm not an expert on these, but to me, it resembles Dasylirion wheeleri. Did it have showy flowers or did you not notice them?

Hi Daniel, Thank you for your reply. No flowering as of yet but i am waiting with high hopes for its show. I looked at your suggestion of the 'cactus or desert spoon' plant -thank you for the usda site--great info there. The plant in my yard is more green in color (than the blues in spoonplant) and has narrow or slimmer leaves plus the actual plant size is easily 8' in width. I am thinking it might be a Rostrata Yucca..?....-- but will not know until it flowers.
Thank you again for your help!!

it´s a Dasylirion longissimum and yeah, i think it´s gonna die, just like any other kind of agavaceae.

but don´t be sad, you´re going to get a lot of seeds from it

    :)

I get the sense from reading online that it doesn't just flower once and then die - only the flowering stalk will senesce.

Would that be an example of senesce sense?
