This plant is a few years old. I think it is some kind of cactus type plant. When I got it, it was very small. The stems are long and the pretty flowery leaves are mostly at the ends of them. How can I help this plant grow properly? And by the way, what is it? It has been neglected because I had been away from home a lot. Thank you much, P
It's an echeveria, also known as a house leek or hen-and-chickens. Here's some info on them http://www.echeverias.com/cultivation.html I hope that that helps ;), Ryan
Hate to disagree, but the side branches suggests aeonium. Rosettes form at the end of leafless stems which look like branches. The older, lower leaves dry and eventually fall leaving the bare stem. Indoors, it needs a bright window but really benefits from getting outside in summer. Minimum water in winter, needs well draining soil. These plants branch but I've not seen one twist around like yours. Here's a site that might be helpful: www.hort.wisc.edu.mastergardener/Features/indoor-tenderplants/aeonium. Good luck with it.
definitely aeonium. doing pretty well considering :) it hasn't always gotten the sunlight that it needs and has grown towards the light source - that is why it's all twisted around.
LOL, steve!! bluewing, i have the same planter - got it a couple years ago. i don't remember what store though. i think it may have been from franks (which has since gone out of business).
Doobie doobie do? I should look around for a talking great dane and a bunch of stoned teens. I'm assuming that they'd be running from a giant venus fly trap that's really old Old man Samson wearing a dumb mask. (Sorry, couldn't resist!)
He would have gotten away with it too if it wasn't for those darn meddling kids and their dog!!! Who ate all the scoobie snacks? "It wasn't me" said Shaggy!!! Its true they did used to sell pot at that crafts store named after a weiner!! They went out of business because a bunch of hardware store chains undersold them with really cheap junk plants.
I hate to disagree as well but I believe it is Aeonium Haworthii. I have one that is just booming right now. In bright sun the margins are almost hot pink, it's a great contrast with the blueish green leaves.
Thank you all for your input, and the chuckles :) I couldn't get the link to work, but now that I know what it is I am doing some research. I'm not sure where I got my pot either...
