I would like to find out what plant this is- invasive, may have been introduced by birds, leaves fleshy, like from a sedum plant, tap root, flowers seem to open up only for a day, usually afternoon, evening, drought resistant, blooms august, september, new seedlings sprouting now -
thanks for the comment- the leaves on my plant are more oval, I compared the pics for your suggestion posted on the usda website, they look different - but the plant could belong to the purslane family- I will attach some more pics - the flower is less than 1/4 of an inch
yes - you are right- it is talinum paniculatum also known as Jewels of Opar - it belongs to the purslane family-, genus: fameflower- I checked with other websites and compared pictures - no doubt about identification- David in LA and Tyrlych, thanks for your help-
Actually David recognised your plant, -- the name accepted now for this genus is Phemeranthus. I just supposed that more pictures could be found on the Internet for the old name, Talinum.
Actually, T. paniculatum is still in Talinum. I should have suspected T. paniculatum from the leaves.
David is correct, T.paniculatum is still in Talinum: http://plants.usda.gov/java/nameSearch?keywordquery=talinum&mode=sciname&submit.x=12&submit.y=10
