I have been trying to identify this plant - it is often found in the area of Phoenix, AZ, usually potted. It has a long, woody, bare stem usually 1 -2 feet long. I tried the smartyplants website and they thought it was an aloe, possibly native to South Africa. I tried a site they suggested that was specific to South Africa, and although what I found seemed somewhat familiar in form, I was unable to find anything that looked like the attached photo. Smartyplants said you would have the answer. Thanks.

Looks kind of like an aloe, which are commonly grown in AZ. But to me it looks more like the flowers of Kalanchoe daigremontiana. Do you have a photo of the plant?

Kalanchoe or Bryophyllum for me. Most likely to be escapee K. daigremontiana, as Eric suggests.

BINGO!!! - Kalanchoe daigremontiana indeed. When I Googled this, the photo that came up looked almost exactly like my own.
