Pinus wallichiana

    We saw the cones on this Pinus wallichiana half way across VanDusen Botanical Garden (well, a bit of an exaggeration, but we definitely were in a different area). I couldn't measure them, but they seemed to be about 30cm long.

    Actually, I'm just going by the tag for the ID on this. In Trees of Vancouver, Straley, 1992, I see that Pinus wallichiana is also called Himalayan White Pine and is supposed to have needles blue-green in colour. This one didn't seem at all blue.

    Yep, Pinus wallichiana. The various white pines often hybridise freely, but I can't see anything to suggest hybrid origin in this one.
