    Probably the most important point is that it needs good drainage, and does not like wet soil. It also needs full sun, no shade.

    Yes, like other pines readily deformed by shade. You want a completely open position with no trees or buildings casting significant shadows.

    As Ron pointed out, it is easily deformed by shade. As a young tree it can look pretty messy, not getting a good shape for a few years. Worth being patient though. It eventually has a nice shape. The decorative bark can take a while to look good to. Young plants in my experience are quite prone to attack from Voles too.
