All, I shot this flower in moist ever green forest of Silent valley Nationla PArk,South India, Please help me in identifying this flower. regards, Samsoncj http://samsoncj.blogspot.com
Using David from LA's suggestion my search finds it's similar to Impatiens acaulis from Flowers of India. Has the long slender spur. Color and petals slightly different than the one pictured there. Perhaps a close relative or a variation in the species. Harry
samson cj. Just a stunning pic. Please submit it for Botany Photo of the day. Check Impatiens scapiflora. It would seem to have the right features. 2nd row/right, is a good pic http://images.google.com/imgres?img...n-gb:IE-SearchBox&rlz=1I7SUNA_en-GB&sa=N&um=1 In Impatiens acaulis the lower petal is single lobed, in I. scapiflora it is deeply bilobed. http://books.google.com/books?id=QJ...um=4#v=onepage&q=impatiens scapiflora&f=false
Thanks a lot friend for your effort in identifying this flower, so this flower is , Botanical name: Impatiens acaulis Common name: Rock Balsam @Silver surfer Thanks for your comment on my photograph, will surely post it for Botany Photo of the day, it'll be great if it make's it :) btw this was my first post in this awesome forum, i'm really happy for landing up here. thanks again friends! -Samson cj
samson cj. You have misunderstood. I believe it is IMPATIENS SCAPIFLORA. Please look at the links I added in the post above. http://images.google.com/imgres?img...n-gb:IE-SearchBox&rlz=1I7SUNA_en-GB&sa=N&um=1
Silver surfer, After checking the below links , thought its Rock Balsam, http://www.flowersofindia.net/catalog/slides/Rock Balsam.html http://kalyanvarma.net/photography/photo.php?id=88&tag=Plants I'm confused now :( Needs some experts advice for clarity
As usual, I caused the confusion. This plant is Impatiens scapiflora, NOT Rock Balsam-Impatiens acaulis. Silver Surfer had the correct ID. I thought I was narrowing down the id but as you can see that didn't help much. The picture in the first link is second row extreme right. Sorry for my intrusion. Harry
wrygrass, Thanks for the details again, you dint confuse :) Of course its me who thought it in a different way. Thanks a lot friend for your time! -Samsoncj
