We have an earth bermed home in the Savona area of BC. Previous owner had sod on it but did not water. We have removed the sod (it looked terrible) and want to put on a layer of pine tree chips (our Jack Pine had pine beetle and has to come down). My questions is will this attract bugs? Will pine tree chips stop growth of anything on the roof? I have tried everywhere - this is my last option. Thank you in advance for any info.
Isn't that a rather flammable choice for a roof in forest fire country? Sod roofs look bad in the summer when it's dry, and green up again in the off-season: the layer of earth beneath the grass, however, retains its desirable thermal qualities. I'd suggest typing "living roof" into google: lots of suggestions out there as an alternative to grass. Sedums and sempervivums are common....
Where we are there is not enough to burn. I just need an answer to my question. Thanks for the suggestions though.
