I have a pindo palm that I planted over 5 years ago. After last winter, the center fronds died. I assumed the plant was dead. One and only one frond would brown-up and die at a time. When I cut the dead one off, another would die. So I got smart and stopped cutting off the dead fronds. Since March 2008, I have not had any additional fronds die off (only one dead); although no center spike either. How long will the palm appear okay? Will it ever recover? Should I just cut my losses and take it out?

    Thanks,
    Joe

What about mites? Have you looked for those?

All anyone unable to examine the plant or at least some good photos can do is throw out ideas.

Good point, Ron B. I'll try to post some pictures in the next few days. I'm going camping tomorrow...

There is much more to determine regarding the overall condtions regarding your Butia capitata (Pindo palm) which may have had a hand in it's current state.

"Since March 2008, I have not had any additional fronds die off (only one dead); although no center spike either"

You should have seen some growth certainly over the past summer of 2008 ... obviously not according to your statement.

    Cheers, LPN.
