All I want to know is what 'Zone' Pincher Creek, in Southern Alberta, is in, and I have brought a healthy lacy sumac plant from my garden on Van.Island here with me for my daughter, who lives in Pincher Creek AB and I wonder if it will grow/thrive here??

(unfortunately we have kept it in the basement, in the laundry room, and it has begun to grow immensely with all the sunlight here and the warmth from the unusually mild winter....how do I limit it's growth and when would it be safe to plant in a protected area this spring/summer?

Any answer you can provide me would be such an enormous help...I don't want to lose the tree if at all possible.

    Thank you

Pitcher Creek is in zone 3b.

It is listed here as hardy to USDA zone 3, so it should survive.

I would suggest you plant outdoors after all danger of hard freeze and mulch and water well. You will need to acclimate the plant slowly to the colder temps by putting outside for a short time on warm days and extend the time outdoors every couple of days. Keep it in a shady spot at first and slowly get it used to the sun.
