Phoenix canariensis

    Well since I'm on a roll with other palms in my garden, I might as well roll out a few more.
    Phoenix canariensis (Canary Island Date Palm) is another experiment and a palm that will need some periodic winter protection. A problem in itself, because if this makes it, the palm is enormous and methods to protect it will have to be on a large scale. These have met with a reasonable amount of success in the British Isles lately.

    do you have any tree ferns?.. apperantly somepeople have a tasmanian tree fern in there yards.

    I personally do not have Dicksonia antarctica, but fellow gardeners I know do have them. Here's one from a friends garden not far from here on Saltspring Island. This was taken in May (2003) and at the time had been planted for over a decade. The fronds are nearly 10' long!
