I just returned from Mazatlan where someone ID'd a palm for me as "Phoenix canadensis." Meanwhile, back at Google, I'm beginning to suspect that this is not correct. The palm is short, maybe two meters, with very feathery fronds and a very textured trunk. The site was at Emerald Bay Resort in Mazatlan, frequented by many folks from BC, so I thought maybe someone up there knows what I'm talking about. Thanks.

Hello Lindamaria, I suspect what you saw was Phoenix canariensis.

    I changed your user name.

So more importantly, does the Phoenix canariensis look like the plant that you saw? These date palms grow to be large trees, but are slow growing. I have seen them used in landscaping as small young plants.

The information I read said P. canadensis, not canriensis.
