I believe I've posted photos of this plant here but I finally know the name. The plant is Philodendron pusillum and it is fairly rare in any collection. The plant is found in south central Colombia near the border with Brazil and is one of the world's two smallest Philodendron species. http://www.exoticrainforest.com/Philodendron pusillum pc.html I was also informed yesterday in a very kind note that my explanations are far too lengthy and I "run off at the mouth" since no one really cares about the science of plants. Well, I do care but I promise I will do my best in the future to avoid that here and offer only brief answers.
another lovely philodendron!! that one is a real cutie! steve, most who want to learn enjoy the detail of your posts...please don't curtail yourself due to some rude individual. if they don't want to hear what you have to say, they can skip your posts!! you have a ton of knowledge to share; i, and others, very much appreciate the time, effort and care you put into your posts and the fact that you make a distinct point to be accurate. please keep doing what you're doing - just as you have been.
I've elected to cut my specimen of Philodendron pusillum in half and donate one very nice little plant to the International Aroid Society for the 2009 show and sale. If you'd like to buy one of the world's smallest Philodendron species it will be up for auction in Miami on September 19th. You can find info on the IAS show and sale on this forum. This is not only one of the world's two smallest Philodendron species and is fairly rare since it is only found in one small section of southeastern Colombia but it is also very slow growing. The plant that will be up for sale is over three years old and is still very small. This could be a prize if you are a serious collector so be at the show!
Steve, I'm with Jocyln on this - keep writing - the more the better. thanks for all your info and enthusiasm. Brian
My site will remain unchanged. In fact, if anything I'm trying to add more photos to illustrate the characteristics of the plants I grow so anyone can identify a species in their collection (assuming I've got it on the site and in my own collection). I wish all of you could be at the show though!
