Does anyone know where I can purchase a Philadelphus delavayi var. purpurascens (also called P. d. var melanocalyx)? It is uniquely beautiful with purplish calyxes contrasting with the while blooms. So far I've only found availability in the UK. Thanks for your help!
UBC gardens have it - it featured in BPotD a couple of years ago: http://www.botanicalgarden.ubc.ca/potd/2005/05/philadelphus_de.php So it is likely to be available somewhere in North America.
Both accessions of Philadelphus delavayi at UBCBG came from botanic gardens in the UK, but they were acquired in the 1980's, so it should have found it's way into the trade by now. The fragrance is also quite nice.
