Please sign this petition to help save the magnificent big Arbutus tree at UBC, south of the MacMillan building, and write to UBC operations to voice your support. There is a proposal to remove it for a redevelopment in the area. http://www.change.org/en-CA/petitions/karen-russel-preserve-and-protect-the-arbutus-menziesii-located-at-the-southwest-corner-of-the-landscape-annex-on-the-campus-of-ubc?recruiter=128313340&utm_campaign=signature_receipt&utm_medium=email&utm_source=share_petition
It is incomprehensible and deeply disturbing to me that UBC would contemplate such an action. As a member of this Forum, which is ALL about awareness, appreciation, preservation, conservation of the natural world, I am appalled. 'Redevelopment'? What is that ---parking spaces? Yet another coruscating example of a imbecilic decision made by someone who sits in an office all day. So much easier to just sign the tree's death warrant than to figure out how to build the parking lot around it. This disgusting outrage cannot be allowed to happen. Somehow the 'powers that be' must be shown that there are other powers, ancient and essential, which are to be respected by we who are stewards of this earth.
