I wondered what I was seeing here, appearing to be unusual Christmas decorations. They're leaf stems, on Boston Ivy, Parthenocissus tricuspidata. The most ornamental ones were pinker in colour, but they weren't in focus, which was unfortunate, as they sort of matched the heritage Abbott House from 1900, which counts as heritage around here. One could make all kinds of comments about that. Anyway, nice that it was retained. This is sort of downtown, though might be technically in the West End, on W. Georgia backing onto Alberni at Jervis.
At certain times of the year, the Parthenocissus on the arbour by the Food Garden looks like a botanical hedgehog if viewed from the right angle.
Oh good. I was wondering if the leaves had been deliberately trimmed off - they all looked so uniform.
