I'm not sure if it was aphids, ants, or something else that ate up my apple trees leaves. I didn't catch onto the problem until it was really too late but it is still spring here in New England. The tree flowering has come and gone on this mature tree but I'm just not sure how extensive the damage is. Assuming I spray the tree and monitor it closely do you expect it to produce fruit? I just don't know what is "normal" here.

    Thanks

Wow. That looks like the work of caterpillars or inchworms to me - if you examine the tree closely, you'll likely find stragglers. After that, I'd spray and monitor closely, and expect a smaller harvest than usual.

Consider BtK if you decide to spray to control caterpillar.
